Police Department Drones Questions and Answers

Are there any non-military uses for Unmanned Aircraft Systems?

Absolutely. AeroVironment has seen its UAS implemented as vital data gathering resources for civilian and scientific purposes. Specifically, the Qube UAS has seen use as police department drones for local law enforcement.

Can UAS be used for infrastructure management?

Yes. AV's Qube has already seen extensive use in monitoring dams, pipelines, offshore oil platforms, microwave transmission towers, as police department drones, and power plants and ports, in addition to many other uses as well.

How portable are your UAS?

AeroVironment's small Unmanned Aircraft Systems are compact enough to be transported in the back of a fire truck if they're being used to scout fire sites, or the back of a police vehicle, or backpack if they're being used as police department drones. The Qube is an ideal UAS for first responders of any type.

Can UAS really provide an advantage to law enforcement agencies?

Definitely. The Qube is primed better than any other police department drones available on the market today, and the advantage for local law enforcement is the ability to better assess a situation without risking valuable human resources or putting personnel in harm's way. AV's UAS can acquire data in a fast, efficient, accurate, and safe manner that allows police departments to allocate their resources more effectively.

How quickly can AV's Unmanned Aircraft Systems be implemented in a first responder situation?

AeroVironment's Qube is specifically designed for first responders to make the police department drones their eyes in the sky, delivering live video to their operators in less than five minutes from assembly to launch.

Is there UAS training available for law enforcement professionals?

Yes. AV understands that comfortability with its UAS systems is vital to operating police department drones at the best possible level, so the corporation makes sure that it offers training courses that provide education on every aspect of the Qube or any of its UAS systems.

Are AV's Unmanned Aircraft Systems durable for varied environments?

Absolutely. The Qube is a rugged and reliable UAS that sets itself apart from other police department drones both in construction and design, and can operate in some of the harshest areas, including volcanic environments.

What is the Qube's flight endurance?

The Qube can sustain 40 minutes of flight with payload, giving it the best-in-the-business flight endurance, even among competing police department drones.

How complex are the controls for your small UAS?

AeroVironment has spent almost three decades in the small Unmanned Aircraft Systems business developing what has become the standard for intuitive and easy controls via a rugged touchscreen tablet, especially compared to other police department drones. In addition, AV also offers training courses to further increase your comfortability with its UAS systems.

Does the Qube require a long runway to launch?

The Qube uses a Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) system that allows it to take off from virtually anywhere with no runway, making it perfect for first responder implementation such as fire department and police department drones.

Is support available for the Police Drones?

Yes. AeroVironment is committed to support and education surrounding the Qube, and all of the other Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and has been commended for top service and support amongst comparable providers of drones.

Please provide a brief history of AeroVironment's unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).

The market for our small UAS has grown significantly over the last several years due to the U.S. military's post-Cold War transformation, the demands of global war on terrorism. Following the Cold-War, the U.S. military began its transformation into a smaller, more agile force that fights through a network of observation, communication and precision targeting technologies.

AV's Pointer in the early 90's was our first UAS to help fight the global war on terror. Since then AeroVironment's Raven RQ-11 along with our other UAS (Wasp, Dragon Eye, Swift & Puma) have become an integral part of transforming the military force because they provide critical observation and communications capabilities.

All of our UAS are designed to be man-portable, assembled without tools in less than five minutes and launched/operated by one person with limited training. Our UAS enable tactical leaders to observer the over the next corner, intersection or ridgeline in real-time. By providing this information, our small UAS reduce the risk to warfighters and to the surrounding population by providing the ability to tailor the military response to the threat.

AV is the largest producer of small UAS in the world today, having supplied over 9,000 UAS across all branches of the military.

What is AeroVironment, Inc?

Building on a history of technological innovation, AeroVironment designs, develops, produces, and supports an advanced portfolio of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and efficient electric energy systems. The company's small UAS are used extensively by agencies of the U.S. Department of Defense and increasingly by allied military services to provide situational awareness to tactical operating units through real-time, airborne reconnaissance, surveillance, and target acquisition. AeroVironment's PosiCharge fast charge systems eliminate battery changing for electric industrial vehicles in factories, airports, and distribution centers.
