Question: What Is Craftsman Design And How Did You Get Started?
Answer: We are a remodeling, design, and build company that specializes in older homes in the Portland metro area. We do kitchens, baths, exterior, whole-home remodels, but we're especially known for our work on older homes. My background business is a designer, I've worked at different design builds before I started this company back in 1996. I started Craftsman Design because I felt that there was a need for a professional remodeling company in the area. Remodeling is something that is pretty easily entered into, but it's also received a bad reputation. So with my background as a designer and also a project manager, I saw an opportunity to get this business going in an easier and professional way for customers. Typically our customers are going through some sort of life change when they go through a remodel, and we want to help make that process as comfortable as possible for them. We discuss our clients' objectives for the remodel, also the design aspect and their tastes; essentially we work with them through the entire process, and at the end we have an exit interview where we find out what worked for them and what didn't. That way each job we do, we can become a better company.
