Question: Is NUMA Fictional Or Real?
Answer: Well, NUMA, the National Underwater and Marine Agency, started in the mind of Clive Cussler. The real NUMA is a non-profit, volunteer organization that has found dozens of shipwrecks all over the world. Since 1979 NUMA has made many attempts to find the wreck of the Bonhomme Richard. In September of 1779, the Continental Navy engaged the British near Flamborough Head on the Yorkshire coast of England. The Bonhomme Richard, commanded by John Paul Jones battled the British frigate, Serapis. They fought for several hours killing nearly half of the American and British crews. With the British victory inevitable, the commander of the Serapis called on Jones to surrender. His famous reply, "Sir, I have not yet begun to fight!"
