Question: How Important Is It To Replace Brake Fluid?
Answer: It is very important to replace brake fluid within the proper time frame because it saturates itself with moisture over time. When that water is introduced to the inside of your brake system, it will come in contact with metal and cause corrosion. The other negative effect of moisture in the brake system is that water evaporates and turns into steam at 212 degrees but brake fluid does not evaporate below 350 degrees. Moisture in the brake system will cause the brakes to feel spongy and/or not responsive when high temperatures are reached. This is defined as brake fading. If the vehicle is driven in a location with high humidity, brake fluid will require changing more frequently than dry climates.
